According to the latest forecast of the Cotton Association of India, India’s cotton production in 2020/21 will be 36 million bales (170 kg/bag), an increase of 150,000 bales from the previous forecast.
From October 2020 to March 2021, India’s total cotton supply was 45.926 million bales, of which 32.676 million bales of new cotton were on the market, 750,000 bales were imported, and the opening inventory was 12.5 million bales. During the same period, India’s domestic cotton consumption was 16.5 million bales, exports were 4.3 million bales, and the ending inventory was 25.126 million bales, including 9.5 million bales in textile mills and 16.603 million bales in other channels.
According to the latest forecast, India’s total cotton supply in 2020/21 is 49.6 million bales, of which initial inventory is 12.5 million bales, production is 36 million bales, imports are 1.1 million bales, and domestic consumption is 33 million bales. Export volume was 6 million bales, higher than the previous year’s 5 million bales, and ending inventory was 10.6 million bales, lower than the previous year’s 10.75 million bales.
According to Indian official statistics, as of April 11, the cumulative volume of new cotton purchased by India’s MSP reached 1.562 million tons, with a value of 267.1951 billion rupees, benefiting 1.886 million cotton farmers. Weather forecast agency Skymet predicts that the upcoming monsoon will be normal, with June-September expected to be 103% of the long-term average rainfall of 880.6 mm (with an error margin of +/-5%). </p
